PIONEER SPIRIT

PIONEER SPIRIT DR. HERMAN ANSINGH DEFIES ALL ODDS FOR SURVIVAL AND SUCCESS!

DR. HERMAN ANSINGH EPITOMIZES THE PIONEER AND HUMAN SPIRIT

We are very lucky that this wonderful, warm, caring and skillful doctor chose Auburn in 1962 to set up his practice. There are countless stories of his quiet heroisms but many don’t know what it took for him to survive. At 77 years young, he is the “poster boy” for positive support to his community. He still is a licensed physician and helps whenever he is called.

Herman was born on the Indonesian island of Borneo. His father’s career took them to the island of Java, which Japanese forces invaded in 1942 during World War II. He survived over four years of starvation, illness and dehumanization in the concentrations camps of that regime. He was reunited with his family at the age of fifteen. He considers himself one of the lucky ones as many didn’t live.

Ansingh was a driving force behind forming the Auburn Symphony Orchestra and was one of the founders of the Auburn Arts Commission. He attends city council meetings and other public venues to keep informed and aware.

His wife, Yoka, lives in an Alzheimer’s residence. He and Yoka have four boys. The thoughtful and gentle Dr.Ansingh tributes his family, friends, community projects and the world of medicine for giving him a full life.

For his unfaltering humane determination, contributions to our community both past and present, the Auburn Good Ol’ Days Festival awards Dr. Herman Ansingh our Pioneer Spirit Award for 2008.
